History of the Portland Art Show
History of the Portland Art Show
Initially the "Portland Trade Fair" was run as a joint major project by Apex & Rotary, and was held in the Portland Wool Stores.
With the demise of the Trade Fair, the Portland Rotary Club held the first Art & Craft Show in 1982 .
For several years this combined art and craft event was held in the Portland Civic Hall where the show is still held today.
Over the years the club has kept improving the show with investments in hanging systems & display A frames which allow an un-interrupted view of the art work on display.
With the hard work of the committee members and the support of artists combined with the support of our many sponsors prize money today is between $8,000 to $11,000 which attracts artwork from around the country.
The Gala Opening Preview evening attracts approximately 200 to 300 people for a night of fun and viewing fine artwork from local artist and abroad.
