ARTIST BIO

Agota Varga is an Australian based Artist/Teacher/Graphic Designer/Film maker, born in Hungary. 

Agota has lived in Australia since 1987, in Melbourne, and also has a studio on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

Agota started out her Art Career as a member of an Art Studio in Hungary. At the age of 17, she won the first price with her portrait painting at the Hungarian National Art Exhibition. 

She has a Teaching Degree and a Post Graduate Degree from Budapest, Hungary. She is a qualified Art Teacher at Secondary & Tertiary level in Visual Art, History of Art, Anatomy and Description Geometry. Also studied Film History and Film Critic as additional subjects at the University and made a documentary, which won a second price at the Short Film Festival in Berlin, Germany at the age of 20. 

She has exhibited in various places and many times in Hungary and her very first solo exhibition was at the “Csokonai“ Theatre in Debrecen, Hungary in 1985. 

Agota was first invited to an Exhibition for Emigrants Artist in Melbourne, King Street, in 1988. She has appeared in all the main News Papers, such as The Age, The Sun and The Herald. In addition, Agota had an interview about her and her art on the SBS and ABC radio in 1988. 

Following that, she got invited to many Rotary Art Shows in Melbourne, such as Hawthorn, Box Hill, St Kilda, Strathmore, Heidelberg, Sandringham Yacht Club, Melbourne Town Hall and others for many years, where she was selling successfully her work. She also Exhibited with famous Artists, such as Pro Hart and Tim Hall at the Gallery of Assembly of God, in Richmond. 

In 1995 - 1996 Agota with Graham Lukas and with a group of people produced and directed a 13 part TV program called with “Living Testimony”, which was on air on the Optus TV. 

Agota Varga has graduated as a Graphic Designer at the Diploma of Art/Graphic Art & Design at NMIT, Melbourne from 2003. Following that she opened her Art Business and worked as a designed for the “Christian Woman Magazine”.

Agota made two short Film productions about 2 artists, their Artworks and their philosophy for the Exhibition called: “Intersections” reading space between 3 artist who was representing their Faith and understanding of different issues. By their Art Work as a Christian, a Jewish and an Islamic believer at the Jewish Museum of Australia, Alma Rd, St Kilda, Melbourne in 2003. Agota made a creative short film about a Christian Australian based Artist Irene Barberis and her Art Work. Also, another Artist from Islamic background that emigrated to Germany. These two film productions was shown at the Exhibition. 

Her very first solo exhibition in Australia was as a painter at the Golden Wings Gallery, Melbourne in 1989, which was also very successful. 

She was an Artist in residence with the St Vincent Hospital for a year from 2011 – 2012. Two of her Art work are now exhibited there, which belongs to the Hospital. 

Her second solo Exhibition was at the Bambra Gallery, at Bambra Rd, Caufield South, Melbourne in 2013, and third solo Exhibition was at the Kate’s Gallery on Nicholson Street, Fitzroy North, in 2014.

Agota Varga is a Contemporary Impressionist, and Abstract Artist.
