ARTIST BIO

Artist Bio – Julie Bignell

I am a Mount Gambier based artist and have been exhibiting my work, locally, interstate and intrastate since completing my TAFE study in the mid 1980’s. I have also been involved in an international exchange of prints.

Although I use water colour and acrylics, I am primarily a printmaker and am a current member of the Thumb Print Workshop Inc printmaking group. We generally have one major exhibition per year locally and then travel the exhibition to other venues eg Flinders Hospital Art Space in Adelaide.

I use many of the printmaking techniques including solar etching, drypoint and collagraph either on watercolour paper, which allows for hand colouring, or recently have been using recycled tea bags to create miniature pieces.

I have also been combining printmaking techniques with the creation of hand painted detachable wall frescoes.

Most of my artwork is inspired by nature.
